Wifi Security for the home wireless network (All exchanges)

Whether you use CCTC’s wifi service or you provide your own wireless router, CCTC wants to make all customers aware of the necessity for encrypting your wifi network access. This means setting up a password for your network that only you, your family, and friends can access. If you have any neighbors within 300 feet of your home you NEED to setup password encryption for your service. If no password encryption is present, anyone within range using a wireless device can access your wifi network and there are many possible legal liabilities to consider.  So, it is very important to take the necessary steps to protect your wireless network.

If you provide your own wireless network device, please refer to the device’s instruction manual for setting up your home wireless network encryption. If you’ve lost your manual you can find instructions for your wireless device on the internet by visiting the manufacture’s website.

If you have a CCTC wireless device, most all CCTC provided wireless network devices were programmed with a unique SSID (network name) and password encryption. If you think you would like to change your SSID or password you may call us at 348-3130 to arrange for a password change.
